Rule #10 – Don’t Let An Intern Drive
Facebook may have established the entry-level title of Page Admin to represent the person in charge of managing your Facebook page. However, before you bring on an extra set of hands to help manage and maximize your social media presence, you should quit looking at your open position as one that requires, “little or no experience.”
WARNING: Putting a connected device into the hands of someone “green” and giving them authority to post whatever they want about your brand can be a major liability.
Have you seen the infamous “tweet and delete” photo featured above? Basically the story goes like this; Katy Perry’s juvenile husband thought it would be funny to show the world what his pop star wife looks like without make up on her face, so he tweeted out this adorable picture.
Yep, Russell Brand took Maxim’s 2010 sexiest woman alive and turned her into Screech from Saved By The Bell overnight.
Here’s a woman who gets paid millions of dollars by sponsors and sells a lot of albums because of how she looks. Once Mr. Perry sent out this Tweet, Mrs. Perry’s good looks and social stock took a huge hit.
Remember what I said about being an aspirational brand in Part 4 of this series?
Well Katy Perry the hottie, the object of desire for hormone-filled teenage boys worldwide, became just another California Girl you walk by on the street.
While authenticity is important, so is being smart about the content you distribute.
Sure this gaff won’t kill her career, it will be remembered for a long long time.
