email

We’re excited to bring you our blog new feature; The North Social Page Admin of the Week. We’ll be spotlighting Facebook Page Admins that are using North Social apps in innovative ways to build their Facebook followings. This reoccurring blog segment is meant to inspire by sharing Page Admin ideas, challenges, and wins with the North Social user community. Enjoy the Q & A.

What does your company do and what is your role there…besides running the Facebook page of course?
Well we’ve been calling ourselves an online classified website but we’re transitioning to a site that does so much more. We’re in the process of redesigning our site and simultaneously launching a jobs and a talent section. The talent section will be a platform for our users to host videos of themselves, doing whatever it is that they do. So how is it different than youtube? There won’t be any videos on how to change a light bulb or watching dogs chase after sharks in Australia. The talent section is focused on you, the user. It will be an extremely effective way to showcase and share your talent with hopes of getting exposure from the ‘right’ people. Through strategic partnerships, it may even lead to sponsorships.

I wear a few different hats at upillar.com. I do all of the social media (with the help of a few guys I work with), I help out with the marketing, helped plan a few events, I handle all the investor relations, and I’m helping integrate the company into the local community.

Why does your company have a Facebook page?
Upillar.com has a facebook page for our ‘people’. It simply provides a place for me, and the company, to DIRECTLY interact with who we care most about, our users and followers on facebook. I’ve made it a point to build relationships with people on an individual basis. I’m at the point with a lot of our users where I’m calling Robert, Bob and Pamela, Pam.

We strongly believe that good things happen to good people (companies). Therefore, we try very hard to bring value to our users through facebook.

What’s the most successful marketing program you have run using North Social apps on your page?
So far it’s been the Sweepstakes app. We gave away 100 shirts in 100 days and it worked like a champ. It helped increase our likees by about 20% and made 100 people quite happy. I highly recommended it!

What other companies do you admire for what they’re doing on Facebook?
I’ll be honest I really like what North Social has been doing lately. The page admin blog and the video shorts are awesome! I’m a big proponent of taking other peoples ideas, and formatting them to be unique to your own business. Now I know some people will read that and be like “this guy just goes out and takes other peoples ideas” but guess what…if done correctly, working off someone else’s idea can be very effective.

Oh and of course Redbull, they just rock.

If you could offer one key to success (big or small) to fellow page admins, what would it be?
One thing that I’ve learned since being involved with social media is FIND THINGS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND IMPLEMENT THEM, IN A UNIQUE WAY, YOURSELF. Don’t try and reinvent the wheel when you’re still a small company with a small budget.

I’m all for innovation but when you’re trying to get your page off the ground don’t sit around thinking about what you should do.. just pick something and roll with it. I’m still learning things every single day and half the battle is finding out what works for you, and that can only be done by trial and error.

What apps are you using?
We recently used the Sweepstakes app but it just ended so we removed it. We’ll use it again soon though. We’re also using the Video Channel app and the friends app. They’re all pretty dang cool.

How can people connect with you online?
You can and WILL find us at facebook.com/upillar,http://www.youtube.com/upillar, and on twitter @upillar. You can also email me with any questions/comments/concernslandon@upillar.com. Thanks a lot!
